Supply List - Wiksten Shift Top

The Wiksten Shift top is loose fitting, versatile, and easy to fit. It features patch pockets, short dolman sleeves with the option to add a three quarter length sleeve, and the neck is finished beautifully with a facing. A great project for the beginner garment sewist!

SUPPLIES REQUIRED:

Recommended Fabrics:

The Wiksten Shift can be made in a wide variety of woven fabrics. We recommend a light to medium-weight cotton or linen for beginner sewers, as this fabric is
stable to sew with. As you progress in your sewing abilities, tencel twill, or rayon challis will result in a top with more drape, but please note that these fabrics are less beginner friendly and are slightly more challenging to sew with.

Choosing a size:
For the purpose of determining how much fabric to buy, take your full bust measurement in inches (in other terms, measure the largest perimeter around your chest). Find your measurement in the BODY MEASUREMENT chart (the first chart on the following page) along the row labelled bust. Your numeric size will be listed above your bust measurement.
Please note that the fit of the Wiksten Shift pattern runs large. Students are welcome to sew one size smaller than recommended by the designer for a slimmer fit.

Fabric yardage:
The Wiksten Shift has THREE versions. In this class we will be making the top version, with the option of adding a sleeve. Once you know your size, next determine what version you’re planning to sew and reference the above chart. Buy the amount of fabric needed based on your fabric’s width and your size. The yardage listed outside of the brackets are for fabrics that measure 42” wide. Yardage listed within brackets are for fabrics wider than 54” wide.
