Interested in learning how to sew clothes, but unsure where to start? Look no further! The Seamwork Bo is the perfect beginner project for someone who is brand new to the world of garment sewing. This top is a wide woven tee that acts as a perfect blank canvas for light to midweight fabrics, such as linen or viscose blends. It features a round neckline finished with bias tape, sleeve cuffs, and a hem that hits at the high hip.
In this beginner garment workshop, participants will learn common sewing concepts and techniques used when sewing clothes, such as:
- How to read a pattern, take measurements and select an appropriate size
- Cutting and marking fabric
- Stay stitching, edge stitching, understitching, clipping curves
- Making and applying a bias binding
- Pressing and hemming
- Seam finishing
Level: Beginner garment sewing. Students must have working knowledge on how to use a domestic sewing machine. If you have no experience using a machine or need a refresher, please enroll in our one-session Sewing Machine Basics class.
Length: 6 hours (2x 3hr sessions)
Instructor: Liz Simpson, Anna Dalton, Emma Moeller
Materials: Class fee includes the PDF + printed copyshop pattern and in-store use of sewing machines and notions. Students are required to supply their own fabric and thread (available to purchase at Needlework with class discount applied). See the supply list here.
