Make the Moss Jacket: an open-front layering piece that features front pockets and a classic back yoke! Mix-n-match various collar widths and jacket/sleeve lengths to make the jacket your own. This particular project is a suitable challenge for the sewist with some garment sewing experience who want to build both their skills and their dream handmade wardrobe!
Skills Practiced & Learned
Dressmaking basics: how to read a pattern, taking measurements and selecting a size, cutting and marking fabric, pressing, hemming
- Applying interfacing
- Topstitching, edge stitching, understitching, clipping curves
- The Burrito Method
- Finishing seams on a serger
Level: Advanced beginner dressmaking. Students must have working knowledge on how to use a domestic sewing machine and recent experience making at least one other garment. If you've never made a garment before, we recommend starting with The Georgia Top before registering for this workshop.
Length: 9 hours - three 3hr sessions. Additional independent sewing (aka homework) required between sessions.

Materials: Class fee includes the PDF + printed copyshop pattern and in-store use of sewing machines and notions. Students are required to supply their own fabric and thread (available to purchase at Needlework with class discount applied). See the supply list here.

General Class Policies
In order to ensure that each student completes their project in the allotted time frame, our sewing machine based workshops are limited to 5 students (maximum) unless otherwise stated. Workshops that do not required a sewing machine are limited to 6 students. A minimum age of 18 is required for all our classes unless otherwise stated. Students must have completed the Sewing Machine Basics class or have equivalent experience in order to participate in workshops that require the use of a sewing machine.
Covid-19 Policies
Instructors and students are required to wear masks and/or face coverings for the entire duration of the workshop.
Payment and Cancellation Policies
To reserve a spot in any of our workshops, full payment of the class fee is due upon registration. Cancellations made at least 72 hours prior to the class start time are eligible for a full refund. To ensure that we are able to meet the minimum number of students required to run a workshop, cancellations made within 72 hours of the workshop are subject to cancellation penalty equal to 50% of their class fee, with the remaining 50% placed on file as store credit. Cancellations within 24 hours of the class start time forfeit the fee entirely. To avoid a cancellation fee, please provide notice at least 72 hours prior to your scheduled workshop.
